Watson isn't artificial intelligence

A note on IBM Watson and the meaning of artificial intelligence.

IBM launched 2000-people strong cognitive business unit today. The interesting piece of what CEO Rometty said is:

"Watson isn't artificial intelligence. AI is one of 28 engines behind Watson."

Seems like stigma about the "AI" term has gotten high enough for IBM to renounce it.

This quote highlights how hard it is to have an enterprise cognitive automation conversation when the anchor point about AI is "singularity", "superintelligence", and "OMG the robots are coming!"

P.S. Here is another sane voice on "Applied AI" - GoDaddy CEO: https://medium.com/@Blakei/artificial-intelligence-and-the-future-of-work-abacce6328d6

P.P.S. If you do want some of the "OMG the robots are coming!" - this is the best summary so far: http://waitbutwhy.com/2015/01/artificial-intelligence-revolution-1.html
